Aurora Youth 4 Success (AY4S) Frequently
Asked Questions
I missed the online application &
in-person registration. Can my child still sign up?
We have had a tremendous response to this
summer's program and many of the classes are now full. The final
opportunity for your child to POSSIBLE participate is to come to
Overland High School on the 1st day of class, Tuesday, July 5,
between 11:30-12:00 to place their name on a waitlist. For
students who have already registered, they will be at the top of the
waitlist. Students who sign up for the waitlist on the first day MAY
have an opportunity to enroll in classes with room for more students,
but WE CANNOT GUARANTEE that there will be ANY spots available on
the first day for students who have not already registered.
Where can I learn more about the Aurora
Youth 4 Success program?
Before your student applies to the program, we highly recommend that you
watch these two 5-minute YouTube videos which recap our past two summer
programs:

Where will the Aurora Youth 4 Success
Program Summer 2011 be held?
This summer’s program will be hosted by Overland High School located at
12400 E. Jewell Avenue in Aurora. (South East Corner of S. Peoria
St. & E. Jewell Avenue).
If my
student lives in Aurora but goes to school outside of Aurora, are they
still eligible to apply?
Yes.
If my student goes to High School in Aurora,
but lives outside of Aurora, are they still eligible to apply?
Yes. All students who either live in Aurora or attend
ANY High School in Aurora, are eligible to apply.
Unfortunately, because of the large number of applications, we cannot
accept any student who doesn't meet the criteria of living in Aurora or
attending an Aurora High School.
What courses are offered?
The following courses will be offered during the Aurora Youth 4 Success
Summer 2011 program. Because of the tremendous response we have had
from the families in the Aurora Public School & Cherry Creek School
District, we have been able to add a few additional classes. Check the
Aurora Youth 4 Success website often for information about classes and
new offerings.

How do I apply and register for the program?
NOTE: All courses will
be filled on a first come, first served basis.
There WERE several ways
to register for the 2011 Aurora Youth 4 Success:
-
To secure the highest place in
line, students had to fill out an online application by Friday,
June 24.
OR
2.
Students had to register in person on either June 27 or June 28 (4:00 - 6:00 PM)
Overland High School
(east entrance hall).
OR
3.
Students may
come to Overland HS at 11:30 AM-12:00 PM on the first day of
class,
Tuesday, July 5th, but we
cannot guarantee that there will be any
classes or preferred classes still
available.
What is the fee & how do I pay?
The fee for the program is $30. It includes registration in one course,
both bonus courses: Alive at 25 & Operation Hope courses, and a free
“Lunch & Learn” each day. A variety of lunchtime presentations about
career & professional opportunities will be shared with all students.
We
accept checks and cash for payment. Checks can be made out to Aurora
Youth 4 Success. We apologize, but we do not accept credit or
debit cards.
How do I apply for a scholarship?
Send an email to:
info@AuroraYouth4Success.org. Put in the subject line: AY4S
Scholarship Request. Type a brief message explaining your need for
a scholarship.
What is the schedule for each day?
· We
begin on Tuesday, July 5th. Final registration is from
11:30AM-12:00PM. Lunch will be provided. Welcome & Orientation are from
12:50-1:00PM.
· "Lunch
& Learn" will be provided every day from 12:00-12:50PM. Although the
lunch is optional, we highly recommend that students attend. Various
professionals will be sharing their insights and advice about their
chosen profession.
· Tuesday
– Friday – classes will begin promptly at 1:00PM and end
at 3:00PM. Please do not drop off or pick up your student late.
· Both Monday
required bonus classes will begin at 10:00AM – 3:30PM
· Friday,
July 22rd will be our finale to the program. The details of
our “Culmination & Celebration” will be provided after the program
begins.
My student will need to miss one or more
days. Can they still participate in the program?
No. Unfortunately, because of the high demand for the program and the
expectation of 100% participation, we cannot accept anyone who knows
they will miss one or more days.
Why is 100% perfect attendance to the main course
& bonus courses so important?
We might not be able to place every student who applies into a class.
Without a 100% commitment to attend, students are taking away a spot
from someone who can.
Additionally, because of the 3 week time frame, lessons are planned to build on each
other & lead up to a final project or presentation that will be shared
on the final "Culmination & Celebration" event on the final day, Friday
July 22rd. Missed classes or late arrival is a burden to the instructor
and disruptive to other students. More details will be sent home with
students about the "Culmination & Celebration" event once class starts.
NOTE: Additionally, students with 100% perfect attendance will be entered
into a drawing on the last day. We will have several nice prizes,
including a FREE refurbished DESKTOP computer!
I left a message and/or sent an
email and I haven’t heard back. How do I know you got my message and/or
email?
We
are pleased to report that we have had a tremendous response to our
program! As an all volunteer AY4S program committee, we are doing our
best to respond to inquiries. Although we have a system in place to
capture all email and voice messages, we ask for your patience &
persistence. We will respond as soon as we are able to all
communications in the order they are received. For the quickest answers
to the most common inquiries, we ask that you please read the
Frequently Asked Questions and visit our webpage frequently for
updates:
www.AuroraYouth4Success.org.
If
you absolutely require an urgent response, please send us an email to:
SiteDirector@AuroraYouth4Success.org AND call 303-351-2588.
In your email, please type in the subject line “URGENT: (a
description of your issue)”
How will I know if got into a
class?
You will be notified via email if your student was assigned to an Aurora
Youth 4 Success course no later than 5:00PM on Sunday, July 3rd.
Check your email frequently as spots may open up and new courses may be
added. If you do not have email, please attend the on-site registration
the first day of class, Tuesday, July 5th from 11:30AM – 12:30PM at
Overland High School.
PLEASE NOTE: The
CHECK-IN time for the first day of the program is from 11:30 AM-12:30
PM. It is very important that your student by at Overland High School NO
LATER than 12:30 PM on Tuesday, July 5th or their spot in the confirmed
class may go to the next person on the waiting list and your student
will be reassigned to another class. PLEASE RE-READ THIS NOTE as
there will be NO EXCEPTIONS.
Please note:
classes are filled on a first come, first served basis. Spots in a
course may become available if an assigned student fails to bring in
